We both loved this activity and it is SO incredibly perfect for Valentines day!!
Not only is the paint non-toxic, it is EDIBLE and also smells amazing and provided plenty of play time for us with very minimal prep and clean up.
What you'll need:
An old T-shirt and/or Art Smock (we used both)
Jell-O
Water
Paint brushes: I like the toddler paint brushes, they're thicker and have a weight in them so they're much easier for small hands. You can find them here.
Plastic Containers/Muffin Tin: I personally used a muffin tin. I bought one from the dollar store specifically for sensory activities and it's much easier than separate containers.
Card stock: regular paper is much too thin for this activity. Construction paper would be a great alternative as well, but if you're printing something out... card stock is the way to go.
Trash Bag
I didn't use any type of measuring, I filled the muffin tin just under half with grape and cherry Jell-O and added water slowly until it was the desired consistency. The desired consistency is just under the consistency of tempera paint.
With it being Valentines we were going for red and purple which is exactly what we got.
I would say I used just under 1/5th of the Jell-O package.
Once you've got your "paint" mixed I would put your child in an old T-shirt.
I used one of my old shirts with an alligator hair clip on the back to bunch up all the bagginess. You could also cut sleeve's off if you wanted too.
We have a small table that we use for coloring and sensory activities but beware that wet jello is VERY sticky so I cut up a trash bag and draped it over her table (which also makes for quick clean up)
I printed designs from this website but there are endless designs for kids coloring pages out there that are free to print.
Your finished product will not only be painted, it will have little sugar shimmers and also smell amazing, too!
Hope you enjoy making the perfect Valentines Card with your little one's!!
